Based in Bismarck, North Dakota, ICA has been a leading provider of investment and insurance products through community banks and independent offices since 1985. With nearly 400 professionals, ICA uses a client-focused approach to support independent financial institutions in meeting their customers’ goals. ICA provides a variety of solutions and services ranging from securities and mutual funds to life insurance, long-term care, and annuities. ICA serves over 200 financial institutions with an array of sales and marketing tools designed to help client needs.

What is a Broker-Dealer / Investment Advisor?
As a broker-dealer and registered investment advisor, ICA is responsible for providing access to securities products and investment advisory services through Investment Professionals (also called “Registered Representatives” or “Investment Advisor Representatives”) who affiliate with them. As a broker-dealer and registered investment advisor, ICA is required to follow the securities and investment advisory laws and regulations put forth by FINRA, the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), and individual states, and must ensure that its Investment Professionals and Home Office staff adhere to these same rules and regulations.
Relationship with Pershing, LLC.
ICA works with Pershing LLC, one of the largest clearing firms in the industry. Pershing is composed of 4,300 highly focused, experienced personnel developing and supporting more than 1,100 financial organizations worldwide. Pershing has evolved into one of the largest clearing firms in the US and the combination of ICA and its sister companies under the National Planning Holding’s (NPH) network has helped position NPH and ICA as one of their key and largest relationships.
Pershing is a member of the Securities Investors Protection Corporation (SIPC) that protects a client’s assets up to $500,000, of which $250,000 can be in cash. SIPC protection does not cover any losses due to market fluctuations. More information about SIPC protection can be obtained at www.sipc.org.
Pershing carries “excess SIPC” (in excess of the SIPC limits discussed above) protection through a private insurance company, Customer Asset Protection Company (CAPCO), for the net equity of your clients’ securities positions and cash in their accounts in excess of the SIPC limits. Net equity refers to the value of your clients’ securities, plus cash minus any amount that may be owed, such as margin loan. CAPCO is a captive insurance company licensed by the state of Vermont.
